Scouting Locations

All of the following were great locations but weren't inspiring enough and didn't capture the angle and brightness I was looking for. They were all taken at different locations and at different times. However, at the beginning they were all options because they were perfect running locations around Sarasota and if the project were to be further extended into including another two page article I would have probably used them.

Table of Contents Template

In all the magazines I researched, the style and/or format that was used included no more than two picture therefore, I decided to do mine just with one filling up the entire background. Since my article would include more then one picture, I decided it would me more eye-catching, clean and modern.
The articles I included cover informative topics and follow the format I created for my ninety flat plan. It includes best runner biographies, training schedules, reviews of the latest running gear, the health benefits of the sport and ideas for healthy snacks. These were chosen specifically for the targeted audience, as a runner I would want to see such articles.

Mid-Term Submission

Using publisher and the multiple helpful tools it come with, such as the Text Box, Word Art and many more I was able to properly adjust all the key items into the places I wanted them.
For my cover picture I decided it would be best to go with a simple track as the background, which was relevant to the overall theme of my magazine. I analyzed the idea of having a photograph of a runner (for the background) however, it would have been distracting for the reader, and they wouldn't fully pay attention to the intended advertised subheadings.
In the bottom left corner a space was left which is where a real magazine would have a bar-code stamped on it.
The size and the fonts of the text were each chosen carefully with the purpose of advertising an eye-catching title and the interesting subheading topics of the articles that would be discussed inside the magazine. As well for the table of contents, the lines surrounding the title are eye-catching components. The format is chosen with the purpose of emphasizing the photograph as well as the text.
Lastly, for the two page article the arrangement of the quote, the addition of the type training table and the pictures are all arranged in a format that was inspired from the magazines I analyzed.

90 Page Flat Plan

A structured magazine makes it easier for the reader to navigate through it and not miss any of the important information provided, which are specially selected in relevance to the overall theme or topic, in this case the art of running,
For specific advertisements, there would be running gear such as the best caps, watches, kinesiology tape and glide, the top seasonal running shoes, and protein enhanced snacks and chosen races.
Articles such as biographies of the selected runners of the week, month and year, best recipes, analysis in depth of effective workouts and the best running trails around the world.
The advertisements were positioned in between articles in order for the reader to come across them as they switch from one article to the other.

Cover Design Template

For the initiation of my cover design I was firm on the decision of using the term Runner or Running in my heading title however, the magazines I analysed were already titled Runner's World therefore, it wouldn't have been the most original idea plus as I further thought about it, using the term did not quite fit the inspiring eye-catching style I was looking for.
I started by looking up inspiring quotes and I came upon one that referenced the effort it takes runners to reach the final miles in a race. So I came up with the title Mile Marker however, I was still not satisfied so I decided to continue the research into running terminology. Until I felt inspire by Mile Breaker. The meaning behind this references the emotion I, as runner, feel every time i'm about to break the last mile in a race.
For the font and color design I decided to stick to professional but different fonts that fit a modern style but still catches attention. The colors were specifically chosen to vary and fit the tones in the photograph used as the background.
As a final touch that would add to the realistic design of the cover, the right hand corner was left clear from any graphic designs with the purpose of representing the space used for a bar code applied by the company and/or the address sent to.

As for the design, there is a side angel shot of a runner with adidas workout leggings and sports bra, the camera is focused on the runner leaving the track in the background faded.

The colors used in the cover seem to all be in a warmer range, most likely emphasizing the time of the day in which the common runner would train. Text features vary in size, font and color. Like mentioned before the title is the largest text in bold and in color white in order for it to stand out. Project Selection- My Decision

After analyzing the strengths and weaknesses I posses for both projects, I have decided to carry on with creating a magazine. Like mentioned before, I believe this project is the best fit for me. I will be allowed to compile three of the things that interest me the most into a print journalism; running, reading and modern house decor.
I plan on making this project not only an academic but an experimental assignment as well, the idea would be to explore in depth the aspects that come with creating a magazine, the research and sources it would require to produce it and to make it as entertaining as possible for the target audience.
Currently, the title of the magazine is still undefined however the idea is to research modern house decor and running topics. If I were to settle on the running topic, I would interview runners I know for training tips, best running clothes and gear. In the other hand if I were to decide for the modern house decor, there would be a greater challenge trying to find what could be included about the topic in, in the magazine.

Project Selection- Film

In the first quarter of this course, we viewed films such as Ferris Bueller, All President's Men and the TV show Newsroom, all which contained unique aspects that made them entertaining for their targeted audience. Different camera shots, angles, specific characters, wardrobe, make-up, soundtracks and even location are the components we had to identify and analyze. After completing the required activities I realized a film project would not be the best project to suit me.
Even though I have great organization, coordination and management skills, I do not posses the director or writer component of it. A film director has multiple responsibilities such as interpreting scripts, overseeing cinematography and technical aspects, coaching actors and coordinating the staff. Multiple skills of which I do as well not posses.
However, that does not state that the project itself is by any means not interesting to complete. The idea of producing a short film or show could be exciting due to the opportunity of working by leading others and making important decisions that would influence the outcome of the project.

Project Selection- Magazine

Print Journalism is the practice of reporting news, advertisements and informative articles in a printed form such as newspapers, fliers or magazines. The idea of being able to design your own media, have it printed out and physically being able to hold it becomes fascinating.
The magazine project would be a great fit for me due to my ability of instantly noticing fashion designers, fashion trends, knowing current information of trending eye catching items and knowing how and what to use to catch the targeted reader's attention. I have the skills of time management, organization and patience to deal with the stress of putting together a physical form of news that not only will entertain the reader but will also inform them on a specific area.
However, dealing with including necessary articles or advertisements that might be required for a magazine to contain and having the reader not avoid them, is one of the challenges that comes with completing this project. Personally this type of project is challenging because there is only so much that can be included in printed journalism that will make it entertaining enough to make it popular.
